TOWN AND COUNTRY POLO CLUB NEWS: OCTOBER 2010
Strong start to Spring Season

The club's spring season got off to a flying start, with an average of four Town and Country teams competing in each of the first four weekends' tournaments. The finals of Killarney's 6-goal and Sydney Polo Carnival's 4-goal both saw two Town and Country teams battle it out in close and exciting matches, the first of which resulted in a difference of just half a goal at the final bell.
Unfortunately, the Sunday games of the Sydney Polo Concours tournament, in which two T&C teams had made it through to their respective finals, had to be cancelled due to wet weather.
IC Frith Appointed as Major Sponsor
In an effort to put together a competitive team for the spring 10-goal season and to provide a boost to Town and Country's women's polo initiative, the club embarked on a search for a sponsor. Thanks to the generous support of IC Frith & Associates, the club has been able to achieve its goals. A Town and Country A-grade team (Hamish Kelly, Richard Rawlings, Andrew Williams, Brendan Fahey) took to the field on Saturday 2 October, as did four sponsored female players, to give them invaluable practise for the forthcoming international Club Challenge.
IC Frith & Associates ("IC Frith") is an Australian owned and operated provider of financial services. Headquartered in Sydney, IC Frith provides insurance, advisory, risk management and outsourcing services to a broad range of clients within the retail, manufacturing, financial services, healthcare, communications, energy and transportation sectors. They are among the top-10 insurance brokers by revenue in Australia and New Zealand and one of the largest warranty service providers in the southern hemisphere.
Town and Country Women's Polo
On Friday 24 September, Australian Captain, Glen Gilmore, gave an excellent coaching clinic from which he selected the twelve players to take on New Zealand's South Island Polo Association women's team on 22, 23 and 24 October. The clinic was free to Town and Country's female members (with just a nominal fee being charged to non-members), thanks to financial assistance from Sydney Equestrian Feed Supplies, Hawkesbury Equine Veterinary Clinic and Back Creek Polo.
The three teams to play the Kiwis are:
- T&C A: Stevey Murphy, Melissa McCarthy, Katie Edmeades (captain), Sarah Martin
- T&C White: Lauren Stevenson, Victoria Doolin, Clare Brougham (captain), Amanda Jansen
- T&C Blue: Jessica Kirkpatrick, Lisa Fahey, Katie Grimmond (captain), Marlene Macfarlane
David Everdell (photographer) comes out of retirement!
Following a five year break from polo, while he focused on other interests (and, occasionally, his lens on the yachting fraternity), our roving photographer, David Everdell is back! He will be capturing a variety of matches throughout the spring season, but please contact him for a quote if you would like him to focus on your game: 0428-990557.
